My name is Kristen Wells. I am from Niagara, Ontario and I specialized in architectural studies at the University of Toronto. I also completed a minor in urban studies.
I chose to study architecture because it is an intersection between art and science: creative but grounded. I enjoy that architecture has specific requirements that need to be met, but how they are met can be solved creatively. This perspective is reflected in my work. I want my designs to be functional and connected to their settings, yet intriguing and occasionally unconventional.
When possible, I like to get away from my desk and experience the variety of the built environment out in the world. I’ve travelled locally and internationally and visited both historic and modern sites. I believe that the world is its own classroom and that architectural concepts can be understood in new ways when they are right in front of you. Architecture is designed by people, with people, for people, so to be able to interact with a building on a human scale is invaluable.
I am learning more and more every day, and will continue to reflect what I learn in my work.
